Evaluation "figures"

For my project exploring portraits and medias, for my decision of drawing myself or a peer I chose myself. I made this decision on the factors that I was accustom to drawing myself due to previous experience in figure and drawing myself and other peers. Other reasons for a self portrait including knowing features of my face better than exploring the features of a peers face, this simplified the job of creating a good standard work and keeping in check with deadlines and home work.

For my exploration of artists I found that Andy Warhol was most appealing for his fancy colours block work and his outstanding cover art for vogue illustrated with Grace Kelly, painted in an Andy warhillion style related to the critical study I have done, this paticulular style was one of my favourite as the figures he draws were really interesting and the style I which is was done fits my style.

For my second artist reasearch and critical study I chose maggi hambling, hamblings style of using pencil effects to draw portraits intrigued me because of her choice of medias using pencil to create quick sketches for self portraiture shows simplicity but and excellent talent for fine details whilst encoporating her own style creating an artist with a unique style of detail and sketch effects.

My final artist reasearch and critical study was based on Fernandez ledger who's work mainly used paints,I chose this artist because I aimed to challenge myself as I don't theme myself round painting unless it interest me for example Andy Warhol, though his style is not what I'm accustom stop do like that he uses blocked colourise to create rough images loosely based around people mixing abstract art with portraiture.

From what I have learnt I took forward my ideas to compose peices such as my final peice with medias related to my artist reasearch and critical studies, my main focuses for my final peices took inspiration from maggi hambling using cross hatching effects for my first, second and third segments all in different media such a colour pencil, water colour, pencil and pen. For my fourth segment I took inspiration from an artist I studied in previous projects. The collage artist I used was Peter Clarke style and inspiration to create a simple but effect picture and final piece, my reasons for the select medias used

Pencil and pen: the segment in which this style is used has a rock style 90s theme this also is whips just newspaper cuttings and black paper to give it a rebellious edge. The pen and pencil in a cross hatching style gives the picture a more rugged effect adding the the old rock style I aimed for.

Colour pencil: colour pencil was used in the section as it allows for a more detailed looked shown in the detail of the eye. Using colour pencil is one of my favourite medias as I can encorpporate colour without diminishing the detail of pencil.

Water colour: though water colour can sometimes lose a challenge for me i am able to blen the colons well to creat a faded effect as shown with the lips, I alas found that with a thi/fine brush I was able to put a lot of p detail in the eye which I sometimes struggle. Also water allows for unique colour mixture and style not found with paint.

Collage: collaging has recently become a favourite of mine, my reasons for using it are because I am able to get perfectly cut segment to give it a block effect like some painting done my Andy Warhol. Though simple I feel it adds a lot of effect when the right materials are used like the eye the lines on the material from a distant give the impression of fine detail, this segment is the most simple as it is made up of only seven piece,s of paper but is very effective.

I personally feel I have emproved my  experimental drawi skill by practising, in addition to this I feel I have become better at time management as I have felt rushed in previous projects which has seen my work look rushed, but I do believe that that my abilitys to paint has vastly improved as before I would use wet media as much but I have been encouraged to use different styles to expand my array of abilitys, though wet media isn't shown in my final piece glimpses of wet media are seen through out my project examples include my artist critical study.

Through out this project i feel I have managed my time efficiently getting work done to deadline and completing work on time, but I did feel that the work load through out this project was more substantial than previous projects no this has dimished my hope of receiving a good grade is I don't feel my work is of a good standard compared with other projects where I have been able to produce good quality pieces.

I don't feel I have produced the best mood board I could have done, I aimed for a scrapbook affect with rugged edges and backed picture which may be mistaken with laziness and scruffy efforts though this wasn't my intention I believe I could have produced better with my efforts as it isn't up to scratch. I felt that the time frame in which to do set work was short hence the lack of good standard work being produced, I do not expect I good grade for this project due to this fact and other contributing factors through out this projects.

My overall thought for this project at the start were excitement because I enjoy drawing figure and it's something I can do well, though through out the progression of this project it dimished as the time frame was so short I felt I wasn't able to produce good work and it turned from an enjoyable project to a hectic rush to complete pieces to an unacceptable standard, I feel that a pass is all I can potentiall accomplish with fail being an equal if not more dominat outcome.
